MMEIC NAIDOC Celebrations

JULY 8th 10am - 2pm

Terra Bulla Leumeah Conservation Reserve, 151 Dickson Way, Capembah (Myora),

Minjerribah-Moorgumpin Elders-in-Council’s (MMEIC) celebration of NAIDOC, highlighting “Our Languages Matter” from the perspective of Minjerribah and Moorgumpin people. There will be stalls, traditional activities, food and information sharing promoting Indigenous culture, along with programs by local organisations and government agencies focused on encouraging community, family and friends. Featuring woven stars from the 1 Million Stars to End Violence project. Free event.

OUR LANGUAGES MATTER

Redland Performing Arts Centre, 2–16 Middle St, Nandeebie (Cleveland)

A showcase featuring COLOURED STONE! Join us for a free community celebration during NAIDOC week, featuring art and performances that demonstrate the strong connection Indigenous people have with the Redlands. There will be traditional and contemporary dance, storytelling, song and art displays. Bunna Lawrie and Coloured Stone will headline the event. All ages. Free event.

A gathering by Moreton Bay celebrating Indigenous cultures through dance, music, arts and more. The Quandamooka people host First Nation dance groups from mainland Australia and Pacific nations to showcase their distinct traditions. Enjoy a free family day of Aboriginal and Islander art and craft activities, including sand art, cultural dance workshops, art workshops, food and craft markets and more. Kunjiel (Corroboree) Closing Ceremony

Indigenous art and weaving activities, bush tucker, stalls, art and crafts, and fun. This year’s Kunjiel is also pleased to present live music performances by artists from the lexicon o'f Aboriginal Australia’s discography including Black Arm Band, Roger Knox & Band, Adam James Band, Joe Geia, Quandamooka spoken-word artists, special ‘surprise guests’ and more.

Indigenous Culture Day Cruise

AUGUST 25th or SEPTEMBER 8th

Meeanjin (Brisbane City) to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island)

A luxurious, fully catered, Indigenous culture day cruise of Quandamooka sea and land. Cruise the waters from the heart of Brisbane City, Meeanjin, down the river and accross Moreton Bay to North Stradbroke Island, Minjerribah. On board, a Quandamooka guide will welcome guests to Country and speak of traditional culture as we travel. Small group workshops on Didgeridoo playing, Traditional weaving and Jandai language will take place.

QYAC Native Title Celebrations

On 4 July 2011, Justice Dowsett of the Federal Court of Australia handed down his judgment recognising the Quandamooka Peoples’ rights to their land and sea on and around Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). Join us as we commemorate that day, celebrate our achievements over five years and hear guest speakers talk about native title, self-determination and other Indigenous issues.
