Island Made Exhibition

July 2nd to August 13th

Redland Art Gallery, cnr Middle and Bloomfield Sts, Nandeebie (Cleveland)

lsland Made showcases functional objects handmade by Quandamooka and non-indigenous artists and makers living on Southern Moreton Bay, Coochiemudlo and Minjerribah (North Stradbroke) islands. Comprising exceptional objects made for ordinary use, the exhibition includes ceramics, woven baskets, bags, silverware, crab pots, stories and photographs. Curated by Tricia Dobson and Maria Cleary.

Connecting Waves - a saltwater woman living on desert country

JULY 5th to AUGUST 5th

Onespace Gallery, 13a Gladstone Rd, Highgate Hill, Brisbane

Elisa Jane Carmichael is a Ngughi woman from Quandamooka country living on Arrernte country in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). As the Gilimbaa Artist in Residence, she is recording and documenting her personal and creative journey as a saltwater woman living in desert country, weaving and painting her connection to the sand and sea and home country through woven objects and canvases. Walk through the gallery and enjoy the wonderful cultural photos from yesteryear. See a historical pictorial display of Quandamooka families, including war veterans, Elders, school classes and sporting heroes, as well as the Myora Mission. Entry by donation.

Kunjiel (Corroboree) Closing Ceremony

QYAC Campus, 100 East Coast Road, Goompi (Dunwich),Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island)

Indigenous art and weaving activities, bush tucker, stalls, art and crafts, and fun. This year’s Kunjiel is also pleased to present live music performances by artists from the lexicon of Aboriginal Australia’s discography including Black Arm Band, Roger Knox & Band, Adam James Band, Joe Geia, Quandamooka spoken-word artists, special ‘surprise guests’ and more.

PUMPED! A Social History of Yerrol Creek

JULY 12th to SEPTEMBER 30th

North Stradbroke Island Historical Museum, 15–17 Welsby St, Goompi (Dunwich)

Early Water Supply in Dunwich. This exhibition and talk will explore the social history of Yerrol Creek as a source of freshwater. This has always been an important area for Quandamooka Peoples. In 1885, a reservoir was built to receive water from the creek for the Dunwich Benevolent Asylum. Hear stories of local families who have been associated with the pumping station and early fresh water supply for Dunwich. Exhibition launch and talk is free. Normal museum entry fee applies during exhibition.

TWO ISLAND Tribute Exhibition

July 17th - 22nd

QUT Gallery Z11, Kelvin Grove, Brisbane

Cassim and Sandy Island are both tiny and vulnerable due to their proximity to potential shoreline developments. Their unique ecologies sustain a myriad of organisms and ecosystems. The photographs, film and audio in this exhibition elucidate the value of these islands and include recordings of Uncle Bob Anderson.

SEA WALLS - Live Murals Project

SEPTEMBER 2nd to 10th

Nandeebie (Cleveland) and Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island)

Sea Walls Australia will bring local Quandamooka and interstate artists together at both Nandeebie and Minjerribah. Through cultural immersion these artists will respond to their experiences by creating powerful and meaningful large-scale murals celebrating our oceans. There will also be a Saltwater Cinema community film night, and four dedicated painting days in which the public is invited to engage with the artists and watch them transform public space with world-class artwork.

ISLAND MADE – Small Sculptural Workshop

JULY 23rd 10am - 1pm

Redland Art Gallery, cnr Middle and Bloomfield Sts, Nandeebie (Cleveland)

Make a fishing net from harvested fibres and small ceramic mullet with Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins. Workshop suitable for ages 16 years and up. Cost: $10 per person. Bookings essential, numbers limited.
